Chennai, Apr 3 (IANS) :Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee said Saturday the foreign origins of Congress president Sonia Gandhi would be "an issue and a major factor" at the coming general election.

"The issue is being discussed all over the country now," he told reporters during a brief stopover here en route to Nellore in Andhra Pradesh to address an election meeting.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha, who received the prime minister at the airport, said the question was whether the country needed an Indian or a foreigner to rule over it. The best person to do so was Vajpayee, she added.
