Walt Disney died
before Epcot Center was completed.
Right before he died, someone said, "It's too bad you won't be able to see Epcot Center finished."
And Walt replied, "If I didn't already see it finished, neither would anyone else."
That vision carried him through everyday until Epcot Center WAS completed.
Do you think he thought about it everyday? You betcha he did!
Do you think his vision came from his heart? You betcha it did!
Do you think he felt wonderful about that vision? You betcha he did!
Do you think he took action on that feeling about that vision?
You betcha he did!
Vision, do you have one for your mothering?
"Where there is no vision, the people perish."
Proverbs 29:18
What does it take to have a vision?
1. Start with what is important to you in your
mothering.
Have an internal vision of why you are mothering.
Why?
Why?
Why?
Get at the heart of why you are a mother.
2. Then describe what that looks and feels like.
What result or ideal vision do you want from your mothering?
Describe it in detail. And feel how good it feels to have that result in your mothering.
Go back to Walt Disney:
1. Think and feel about that vision everyday.
2. Make sure your vision is coming from your heart, what
is most important to YOU in your mothering.
3. Visualize yourself already having that result you
want.
Feel how good it feels to have that result.
4. Take action from that feeling good place, take
inspired
action.
One of my most important values is self-expression.
I visualize my children expressing themselves in ways that are fun and meaningful to them. That makes me feel
really good, knowing I am allowing them that expression.
My three year old likes to dress himself. Now, I have to
take action. What kind of action do I take?
If I did not stay in a place where I felt really good about
allowing my children their own self-expression, I would tell him what to wear, how to wear it, etc...
But, since I feel great when I do allow him self-expression, I let him choose which clothes to wear and how to wear them.
I do have two other things that go along with the clothes, though, they have to be clean and fit the weather.
So, when he chooses his clothes for the day, he puts his own shoes on the "wrong" feet, he puts his shirt on
backwards, he has "mismatched" shorts and shirts. Do I
balk at this? No. I revel in the knowing that I am following my own
heart and allowing him that self-expression. It's not hurting anyone and he feels great about himself that he
did it himself.
I am taking my vision and putting it into action and I feel great about it!
What is your vision of your mothering? What is most important to you? What result do you want for your
mothering?
Take some time to ponder this and really feel great about it. This one step could make a world of a difference for
you and your children! Just as it did for Disneyworld!
Enjoy!
